The non-stick coating helps the iron glide smoothly and effortlessly over the fabrics, making the task of ironing a lot more tolerable. Retract the cord quickly and easily with just a touch of a button. The adjustable steam button allows you to select just the right amount of steam required for your ironing needs. Choose regular steam for heavier fabrics or light steam for touch-ups. With our steam/dry selector, you can select to steam or dry iron by simply pushing a button. The spay mist button helps eliminate stubborn wrinkles by directing extra moisture where necessary. Powerful burst of steam helps remove stubborn wrinkles when ironing. It also helps clean the steam vents on the soleplate after ironing.

Great and Convienent5
This Iron works great. No leaks and the retractable cord is the greatest. I bought this Iron when it was Brand-new about 3 years ago and paid way more then it is now. It is a steal.... You should not pass it up!!! It has auto shut off and will do so when left in the done position or when it falls. It also cools relatively fast. Enjoy!

It was good for a year3
I was looking forward to a brand new iron. One that would not clog, leak, ooze or scorch my fabrics.

I use my iron daily. The cord reel is such a neat feature. I almost never dealt with spewing of minerals from the steam holes (occassionally, as the iron was heating up, but it was predictable). I loved the fact that it turned itself off when left in the upright position (standing on its base).

Yesterday my iron, which I purchsed just one year ago, got extremely hot. It got so hot I could smell the iron and when I tried turning it off, nothing happened. It stayed hot. So I had to unplug it. Today? Nothing. RIP Panasonic Steam Iron with Cord Reel NI-R54NR. You were good while you lasted (I just wish you had lasted longer).

lousy iron1
I had this iron for about six months, using it very lightly (at most 10 items every three weeks). To start with the "steam burst" was a joke. It was very feeble at the begining and in a couple of months even that was sporadic; sometimes it would "chuckle" and spit water when I pressed the button, sometimes it would wait for 5 seconds before doing anything, sometimes, nothing would happen at all. Same went for continuous steam, it seemed that the iron had its own opinion about when to produce it. This definitely reflected on the quality of the ironing, especially on dense, thick cotton materials, like casual slacks.

The non-stick plate was pretty bad, too. By the forth month it started to develop corrosion similar to the way you see it start on cars when paint starts "bubbling". I noticed the same effect with teflon (or whatever coating they use) around 5 or 6 holes.

Needless to say, this item promptly went into the trash, and I've been using Black&Decker Digital Advantage for the last couple of months and am VERY happy with it so far.
