very light and flimsy
My Wife HAD MY OTHER BOARD FOR OVER 30 YEARS ( Was rusting so had to get rid of it), This board I don't think will never make 3 years.. it is so light flimsy,and not worth the money. When I ordered it for her I read the reviews and looked at the star ratings it seemed ok for the money, When it arrived by ups it didn't even come in a box even the ups guy made a comment on that. When she set it up it was very wobbly and seemed unstable, the under side of it is just like a steel mesh (almost like they use for plastering walls or underlayment for tile) framing is also very light. the board when set up is very shaky and don't sit even on the floor. she is very disappointed it this board. If it was not so much trouble I would sent it back for a refund....Don't buy......PS I ORDER A LOT FROM AMAZON FOR YEARS AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I WAS EVER DISAPPOINTED

Perfect ironing board, but a little bit noisy
This ironing board is everything I wanted, except it makes a bit of noise as you iron over the middle section. Otherwise I would have given it five stars.

Pretty Good Ironing Board
While several people complained about this board being not-so-sturdy, I find that it's just fine. I'd have to bump it pretty hard to cause my iron to fall over, and it has held up to two felines that were all over it the second I pulled it out of the package yesterday. They've jumped up on it and down from it while the iron was sitting up on top, and there was not enough movement to make me even a little concerned. It is about as sturdy as the ironing board my mother has had and used for 30+ years.

It certainly makes sound as the iron heats up the middle and the metal reacts by popping, but it isn't any different than I've experienced with most ironing boards.

I REALLY like the silicone iron rest, though I am a little sad that if I want to set my iron upright, it has to be on the workspace itself. So far, the pad has held up to my iron set to the hottest setting without a problem.

Excellent value for the money, and I would recommend this one to anyone who is looking for a functional ironing board and isn't looking for something industrial level in stability and make.

Heavy, gave out after nine months, and not for left-handers!
This is a revised review as of September 2009. When revising the review I could not find a means of changing my star rating, but I would like to alert other customers that I would reduce the star rating to two, or even one, if I could.

I bought this iron because of the positive reviews, taking into account various issues concerning the detachable water tank.

I was initially pleased with the efficiency of the iron -- the heat levels and steam output worked well at first, and I have pretty high standards. I realize that the weight of the iron might contribute to its overall effectiveness, but it's a tad heavy. And it hasn't held up. Heat levels are insufficient, and I have to press the steam surge button constantly to achieve any steam at all.

I agree with the reviewer who expressed reservations about the detachable water tank -- seems like it's just another moving part that could get worn out. Have been filling irons from a cup for close to 50 years -- and lately have been using a cup that has a spout on it. I don't see any advantage to messing around with a detachable tank.

The biggest drawback to the iron is that the retractable cord (which to me is totally unnecessary, although some might like it) extends from the iron base from the right! Today's irons rarely are designed this way. I'm left-handed, and find myself beating back the cord so it doesn't get in my way. Just for the heck of it, I tried ironing with my right hand, and it's almost as annoying. Panasonic should take into consideration that even in the same household, both right- and left-handed users might need the iron.

The retractable cord base isn't very stable, and the iron wobbles when seated on end. Sigh. It's time to go iron shopping again.

Great iron
Very nice iron - especially for the price I paid on Amazon.com. Has a removable water tank which makes it easier to fill without making a mess. Nice, very polished stainless steel soleplate which glides easily over clothes. Has an anti-calcium system to prevent buildup caused by hard water which can block the steam system. Another nice feature is the power cord retractor - which works very well.

Fine iron, affordable price
I bought this iron to replace an old Panasonic iron with a retractable cord.

First, I'm absolutely sold on having a retractable cord. Besides the fact that this iron works very well, the retractable cord is the main reason I've stuck with Panasonic. It makes storing the iron so much easier. I leave my ironing board up, in a spare room, and keep the iron (upright) on the board when I'm not using it. I don't have to worry about the cord unwrapping and one of our cats getting a hold of it. The retracting mechanism works very well; it worked quite well on the old one, but they've obviously improved it on this new one.

This iron creates a lot of steam, which I like because it easily gets all wrinkles out, even on very creased clothes that you left in the dryer much too long. Besides being usable as a normal steam iron it is usable vertically in steam mode so that you can get wrinkles out of hanging clothes.

The removable water tank is also a nice feature. The iron is the right weight (it has some heft but isn't too heavy; or worse, too light). I also like the stainless steel soleplate; I prefer that to a supposedly non-stick surface, which usually isn't.

I haven't found anything I don't like about this iron, and the price is right. It works better and has more features than many irons much more expensive.

not nearly as good as its predecessor!
I bought this as a replacement for the X10, which had been inside a suitcase that was stolen from me. I found this one much more difficult to use, primarily because the handle, which rises up from the top rather than folding up from the side, doesn't lock securely in the up position. Frequently while using the iron the handle will partially collapse, either on its own or because I bumped the release button (which is all to easy to do). This jerks the iron, pinches fingers, and makes me fear burning the clothing or even myself.

Furthermore, the cord of the X10 could be wrapped around the collapsed iron when not in use for easy storage in its box, but the shape of this one makes wrapping the cord unwieldy and does not allow it to fit in the box this way...so one must figure out how to fold and stuff the cord in each time one puts it away.

X-50 Travel Iron by Black and Decker
I love this travel iron (dry or steam) it is light and easy to use. I used it in my Quilt Class and it sure beat hauling around my heavy Rowena. It pressed my fabric well; then my blocks; and I am now using it to iron my binding. We plan a trip to Alaska this Summer and I will definitely take it with me in the RV. I highly recommend this product.

Good Traveling Companion
I suppose we are fortunate that almost all hotel rooms furnish irons and boards. However, that doesn't assure that either the irons or the boards are clean! I have found, far too often, that touching up a white dress shirt, which I wear daily on business travel, will leave heaven-knows-what on the shirt. Therefore, I almost always carry a travel iron.

I have the Rowenta steam/iron appliance, the one with the long handle, and I also enjoy it. However, it does take up more room. This little B/D does a good job for a travel iron. Like most of us who iron at home, it does take more time because it's not as powerful as my big Rowenta. It also has a much smaller soleplate, closer to the traditional stove-heated irons of the past. The steam function is okay, again for the limited use in travel. Honestly, I prefer spray to steam on the road anyway. That, and a bunch of starch. This iron, as noted in a prior review, doesn't have a fold-flat handle, which would make it smaller. However, unlike a prior review, my handle locks up in place unless I press the release button to store it.

As a specialized appliance, this iron should be judged in that context, not expecting it to equal the dedicated home model. I will say that this one gets hotter than an awful lot of those hotel irons, which is an asset for my all-cotton ironing. It's not extremely light, but if some buyers have had one of those ultra-light irons it becomes apparent that they don't press well at all on cotton. Recommended.

Buy no other! This is IT!
Just got my steamer after a year+ hiatus since my Rowenta's plastic head cracked off. WOW, what a difference, for almost the same price! My advice: DO NOT bother with a steamer that has a plastic head. Over time, it will melt, crack, irreparably fall off-->the end for your steamer. There were no replacement parts for my Rowenta, & its ability to remove wrinkles was underwhelming, so I just didn't bother replacing it. The Jiffy J2000 is easier to use: The tank pulls out & replaces easily, no levers or locks to undo. The tank opening is big, no funnel needed, holds about a gallon. It heats within a minute to steaming. The metal head gets steaming hot, so you essentially have a combination of a hand-held iron and a steamer (the instructions do stress the importance of contact between the head and the fabric for best results). The handle is big and wooden, so its comfortable & cool. The unit itself is easy to roll on casters, not bulky, so it's easy to use in my very small laundry room. Be aware that if you haven't used a steamer before, the tubing gets very hot & may burn a little one (or you)--teach kids to stay away as soon as you get this out of the box! You will get billowing clouds of steam, & it WORKS, even on jeans! This is a very quiet unit, too, so you can steam while the kids sleep or do homework, Dad watches TV, etc. And if you want to hold your hanging garment by a corner to keep it steady or straighten it while steaming, I would strongly suggest an oven mitt, or just using a metal or wood tong to keep your hand out of the way entirely. That's the voice of experience, having scalded my fingers a few times! DON'T touch the hot steam head & keep it & the hose away from your anatomy. No attachments come with this steamer. The instruction book shows several attachments that can be ordered thru the Jiffy website to make this a steam cleaner (bathroom, floors, etc), hat steamer, etc, as well as a garment steamer. An extended 3 YEAR warranty is also offered on top of the 1 year warranty, for $34.99 on [..]. Can't beat this deal!

Great steamer, just know what to expect
First let me clear something up; my husband's shirts still get sent to the cleaners for ironing. Having said that let me proceed with the review.
As many have already said this does not replace ironing and you will not get the crisp look an iron leaves (although if you hang a hook over a door with a towel you can actually "press" the garment against it and make somewhat of a crease on it).
I am a housewife with two kids and although my husband's clothes are always professionally ironed mine and the kid's are NOT. Since I have the steamer we have gone from the "folded out of the dryer" look to an actually ironed look. I steam everything, their t-shirts and shorts, jeans, my blouses, my husband's polo shirts... it takes the wrinkles away in a second. I can go through a whole load of laundry in about 15 or 20 minutes, and doing it is a breeze.
I have the model with the metal head and it is actually kind of heavy. If you'll be steaming for long periods of time maybe you should consider the plastic model which is noticeably lighter.
I would recommend this steamer to everyone who cannot afford to send every single piece of clothing to be ironed. It really does a great job removing wrinkles (again, it does not replace actual ironing for things like dress shirts and such).

Good Steamer
This is a pretty hardy unit, heavy and sturdy. We are using at home. I was hoping for more dramatic results, but I have not used one before so I assume the results are industry standard and there are no miracle cures for some ironing needs.
